Oris x Collective Horology Must Have a Time Machine

The latest collaborative drop from the two well-known brands represents something that feels like it was lost to the sands of time - the Divers ‘Seventy Five’.

This limited edition ticker, aside from being brashly colored with an orange and red scheme, exhibits an Arabic numeral typeface and a two-tone case/bracelet combo straight out of the 70s. Oris’ Calibre 400 hand-wound movement is kept safe and dry within a 40mm case - utterly wearable in its dimensions and design - while the colorful, retro dial remains uncomplicated thanks to the exclusion of a date window.

Whether you’re a modern collector who’s into the 70s aesthetic, or a time traveller who’s looking for a reminder of ‘home’, this $4,500 watch will transport you to where you need to be. In your mind, at least…

Grand Seiko Loves America… or Their Money!

If you ask me, I’d say that Grand Seiko’s recent announcement of 3 US-exclusive releases is proof that post-war relations between the two great nations are at an all-time high!

Right now, every American collector should be thinking ‘What did we do to deserve this gift?’. It’s not every day that a Japanese firm drops a trio of new watches purely for the enjoyment of a foreign population. And they didn’t cheap out - the 44GS is Grand Seiko’s definitive case design and is powered by the brand’s patented Spring Drive technology. To make these even more attractive, Grand Seiko’s artisans have rendered 3 textured dials in pink, green, and blue, that are uniquely attractive faces. If you know Grand Seiko, this shouldn’t come as a surprise  - their dial finishes are among the best in the world and this collection is no exception.

So, if you’re in the US and still haven’t pulled the trigger on one of these, what the hell are you waiting for?

Watch Fact

Of all the brands you might think made it to TV first, Bulova probably didn’t cross your mind. Surprisingly, they made the first broadcast commercial for watches in 1941.

3-Watch Collection

3 Watch Collection Edition: Blue Dial Edition

Whether it’s your favorite color or not, chances are you either own a blue-dial watch or want to own one. Well, how about 3? Here’s a trio collection of tickers to wear while you sing that goofy 90’s song about being blue.

Rolex ‘Smurf’ Submariner 116619 (Sport watch) -  Few watches are more recognizable than Rolex’s legendary ‘Smurf’ Sub. Blue on the dial and blue on the bezel, there’s enough blue here to drive a happy man to morbid depression. Not really though - it’s impossible to be sad wearing this. Get one for $36,000.

Nomos Tangente Midnight Blue 132 (Dress watch) - This ticker’s dark dial, more ‘mysterious depths of the unknown’ blue than ‘easy-going sky’ blue, is unique among Nomos watches. Everything else is typical - Bauhaus design cues and the Alpha movement. It’s a lot and very little at the same time, all for $1,900.

Grand Seiko Omiwatari SBGY007 (Everyday watch) - Arguably the best Grand Seiko ever built, the Omiwatari’s dial represents the translucent blue ice of the company’s favorite Japanese lake in winter. It’s textured, toned, and rendered in a very Japanese way - perfectly. This Japanese steel is a steal, for $8,300.

Total Collection Cost (USD): $46,200

Quick Bites

  • The Louis Moinet Jules Verne Tourbillon offers something stupidly cool. If you’re into space rocks and watches, you’re going to soil your weird, geeky pants over this - choose one of eight unique meteorite inserts for your dial. It’s expensive, but you’ll have the last laugh when the aliens arrive.

  • If you’re a millimeter-by-millimeter person, you’ll be ecstatic by the reduction in size of Bell & Ross’s BR 03, which is now available at 41mm. I won’t say what size it was previously to save you an eye-roll, just trust me when I say that this model does actually feel smaller than its enormous predecessor…

  • Germany’s MeisterSinger, known for their single-handed watches, recently released a limited run (70 units) of the Benjamin Franklin Edition timepiece, which is both an homage to Franklin’s famous 1757 clock and one of the most confusing watches I’ve ever seen. It’s very cool, though…

  • The annual Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Geneve is coming up soon, so you can expect to see photo releases of several fascinating tickers hitting your news feed soon. Labelled ‘the Academy Awards of watches’, the event is packed full of worthy nominees for best watch, across multiple categories. Place your bets now!
